Facebook Scam
Written by Gregory Feathers

Facebook LogoFacebook is a great social networking tool but as with all good things it can be used in a negative way. Recently I was contacted by an account hacker on Facebook claiming they were a friend of mine and in need of assistance. First off I know where this person should be and not in London as the scammer suggests. I have included our chat dialog below to help people to recognize this scam. Strong passwords should always be used with online services since the risk of hacked accounts is always present. Using safe browsing skills like not clicking links that you are unsure of or opening e-mails that are from strangers.

Google to allow storage of any type of file

Google LogoGoogle is opening up its Docs hosted office productivity suite so that users can store any type of file in it. Docs users will be able to store all their important files in a single place online, where they can access them from anywhere and share them with other people, according to Google. Just because users will be able to store all file types on Google Docs doesn't mean that they will be able to work on those files on the Docs cloud. Google will also be lifting the limit on storage capacity.

Lenovo bucks tradition, ditches SysRq button on some keyboards
Written by Chris Muncy
Thursday, 14 January 2010 10:52
Ever wondered what the SysRq key on your keyboard does? Lenovo has decided it's so rarely used that it has started removing the key from some new laptops.

Lenovo ThinkPad Keyboard

And why stop there? Lenovo has also asked itself how often users press the F Function keys. On the new laptops, the F Function buttons are reduced to secondary controls, in place of laptop controls like screen brightness. Now, you'll need to hold the Fn button to use keys like F11 (while screen brightness can be pressed without holding Fn).

By far the biggest change though, is a change to Lenovo's traditional keyboard design. In the annals of computing history, the venerable IBM Thinkpad will go down as having the crème de la crème of keyboards. While other brands have experimented with weird and wacky and frankly terrible designs, a no-nonsense layout has been the mainstay of Thinkpads for years.

Written by Gregory Feathers

Acer Laptop

Acer America Corporation has recalled about 22,000 laptop computers.

An internal microphone wire under the palm rest can short circuit and overheat. This poses a potential burn hazard to consumers.

The computer's screen size is about 13.3 inches measured diagonally. Not all units are affected. Consumers should contact Acer to determine if their unit is included in the recall.

Consumers should stop using the recalled notebook computers immediately and contact Acer to determine if their notebook is affected and to receive a free repair.
